IS THERE ANYTHING HERE?  WELL...MAYBE – OVERNIGHT:  Today, almost six months after the inauguration of Joe Biden, votes from last November's election are still being counted.   Arizona and Georgia are particularly active.  What is being found?  Can the election result actually be overturned?  From Redstate: 

Remember during all the election hullabaloo last year, when people were trying to figure out what had gone down in Georgia, the Republican Secretary of State Brad Raffensperger was infuriated that anyone would raise questions about the election in his state. The election in Georgia, Raffensperger assured us was “safe, secure, honest.”

People questioned that at the time and now there are still concerns that Tucker Carlson raised last night on his show about Fulton County, Georgia. Carlson highlighted two of the major concerns: that ballot images showed votes were scanned twice and that seven audit tally sheets showed falsified totals. Now, one can try to make excuses for ballots being scanned twice, although as Tucker showed, there was video of it being done repeatedly. What’s hard to get around is the falsified tally sheets. As he explained they would show, for example, a distribution of votes with some going to Joe Biden, some to President Donald Trump, and some to Jo Jorgensen. But then it would be tallied as all for Biden. What’s the explanation for that? It doesn’t seem like there could be any innocent explanation for that.

Now Raffensperger appears to be raising some questions of his own about Fulton County.

“Fulton County’s continued failures have gone on long enough with no accountability,” Raffensperger said. “Rick Barron and Ralph Jones, Fulton’s registration chief, must be fired and removed from Fulton’s elections leadership immediately. Fulton’s voters and the people of Georgia deserve better.”

To translate that — he’s calling for the firing of Fulton County’s elections director, Rick Barron, and the county’s registration chief Ralph Jones.

That sure sounds like a turnaround from “safe, secure, and honest.” So it sounds like he’s now accepting that there are issues at least with the conduct of the election in Fulton County. Nice of him to wait this long to acknowledge it. Where the heck was he last year, when he was saying there were no issues? It’s more than a little bit late to try to backtrack now on the issue.

Needless to say, his statement sparked a lot of anger from people that had that very same question. So if he was hoping to curry any favor with the Trump-supporting base, it actually did the opposite.

COMMENT:  And in Arizona, we have reports – only reports – that a recounting of some areas of the state has turned up suspicious results.

Okay, so now what?  I doubt very much if more counting or investigating will turn up enough questionable ballots to overturn a presidential election.  Indeed, I don't know if such an election can be overturned, no matter what shows up in recounts.  The election is over.  States have certified their results, and the Electoral College has voted, a vote accepted by the House of Representatives.  Who do you go to for justice?  Judge Judy?

What is needed is a true, bipartisan commission, much like the Challenger board that investigated the crash of the space shuttle Challenger during Ronald Reagan's administration.  It would have members selected by each party.  It would investigate the entire American presidential election system and make recommendations to make that system so secure that results could not reasonably be questioned.

But before such a commission can be named, there must be a national recognition, agreed to by President Biden, that our elections are far too uncertain, rules too lax, and public confidence declining. In other words, we have a serious problem.

I take you back to election night, 1960, Kennedy vs. Nixon.  I was an intern for a respected Democratic senator and Marine hero, Paul H. Douglas.  With a group of other staffers I was walking through midtown Chicago at about 5 a.m.  The presidential election had not been called.  Illinois was one of the key states still uncertain.  The Chicago Sun-Times came out with a headline, IT'S KENNEDY.  An hour later the same paper came out with a new headline, IS IT KENNEDY? 

Without Illinois, Jack Kennedy could not win.  And so every political insider at that hour knew exactly what was happening.  Mayor Richard J. Daley, the Mayor Daley, patriarch of the Daley dynasty, was sitting at party headquarters in the Morrison Hotel, plotting his next move.  Only one question was being asked:  How many votes does the mayor need?  Please remember that question.  It was simply assumed that the Democratic mayor of Chicago, and the Republican operatives downstate, where they still used paper ballots, were "looking" for votes that may have been, oh, lost for a time.  Mayor Daley won the treasure hunt.  Enough votes were "found" to make Jack Kennedy the president of the United States.

As you know, the vice president elected that day was Lyndon B. Johnson.  His nickname in politics was "Landslide Lyndon," so given because he'd won election to the US Senate in 1948 by just 87 votes, and where those 87 came from no one knows.

The point is that corruption in American elections, especially in large cities, is almost assumed.  We have simply turned away from the reality rather than face it.  Donald Trump, because of his personality, was probably the wrong man to dredge up this issue, but I'm glad he did.  We must remember that the voting booth is the true court of last resort in American politics.  If we cannot trust our elections, what else is left?  At one time we might have said that a free press would save us by ruthlessly unmasking the wrongdoers.  Really?  Have you noticed our "free press" recently?  Bonnie and Clyde could win governorships and the press would leave them alone as long as they were liberals.

Richard Nixon was urged by many Republicans to contest the 1960 election.  He refused, saying he didn't want to put the country through the anguish and tension that contesting the election would bring.

SHORT TAKES ON THE DRIFTING WRECKAGE – OVERNIGHT:

DO THESE LIVES MATTER? – FROM DAILY MAIL:   Policemen in South Africa have been caught looting goods as the ransacking of stores and warehouses continued into a fifth day - with huge queues forming outside supermarkets amid fears of food shortages caused by the rioting.  Footage showed people accosting a man wearing a police jacket beside a hatchback filled with household supplies, including bread, milk and cooking oil. The woman filming says: 'This is a police officer, in uniform, looting ... This is our SAPS (South African Police Service), guys.'  A second video from the same woman showed another purported officer in plain clothes trying to hide his face from the camera after he was hauled out of his car by locals. His vehicle was laden with allegedly looted products, including a flat-screen television.  'He has looted, he has threatened our lives with firearms, and this is all coming out of his Polo,' the woman says as she films objects on the ground beside the open car boot.   The raging unrest first erupted last Friday after former president Jacob Zuma started serving a 15-month term for contempt, having snubbed a probe into the corruption that stained his nine years in power.  But the wanton lawlessness has lost any political motivation, with gang shoot-outs in the streets, people queuing up in their cars to loot warehouses and malls, and white farmers forming militias to defend their properties.  Wasn't South Africa a big deal once?  Oh, I guess I'm just so yesterday. Please tell me who I'm supposed to root for today.  It's so confusing.  I just want to be sure I know who to cheer for should I be invited to a Manhattan party (some chance). 

BLESS THEM – FROM COLLEGE FIX:    A group of politically moderate students have become targets for name-calling and threats for writing a pro-free speech “UConn Statement” and bringing it before the student government.  The statement reads in part that “Members of the University community are free to criticize and contest the views expressed on campus. … To this end, the University has a solemn responsibility not only to promote a lively and fearless freedom of debate and deliberation, but also to protect that freedom when others attempt to restrict it.”  Its authors have been accused of white supremacy and one of them even received an ISIS beheading video.  After tempers flared within the student government over the effort, it was shelved during the spring semester, but the student authors said they plan to bring it forth again come fall semester.  “If not us, then who? We’re the last hold,” said co-author John Ross, a senior and one of the few conservative senators in UConn’s student government. “This is going on nationwide. … It has to start with us.”  Fellow co-author, economics and political science major Isadore Johnson, said bringing the statement to the student government illustrated just how opposed students are to free speech.  Johnson, a regional coordinator for Students For Liberty, said that while most of the campus is moderately left, there are activist wings that are “really left and exclusionary,” and some have weaponized UConn’s bias reporting system against people they labeled “dissidents.”  The college campuses are a prime battlefield in the fight to preserve American freedoms.  We've got support the brave students who are fighting the good fight.  They get very little help from faculties.

THIS IS SICKENING – OVERNIGHT:  The United Nations, champion of dictators, has been invited by the Biden crazies to investigate racism in the United States.  This, while Cuban freedom fighters are marching in the streets of Havana with very little international support.  From the New York Post: 

The United Nations — whose World Health Organization arm was just panned for its probe of the COVID-19 pandemic’s origins confined to guidelines set by the Chinese Communist Party — has been formally invited by the Biden administration to investigate “the scourge of racism, racial discrimination, and xenophobia” in the US, according to Secretary of State Antony Blinken.

“As the President has repeatedly made clear, great nations such as ours do not hide from our shortcomings; they acknowledge them openly and strive to improve with transparency,” said Blinken in a statement released Tuesday.

Great nations don't commit suicide either.

“It is in this context that the United States intends to issue a formal, standing invitation to all UN experts who report and advise on thematic human rights issues,” he continued. “As a first step, we have reached out to offer an official visit by the UN Special Rapporteur on contemporary forms of racism and the UN Special Rapporteur on minority issues.”

The Biden administration formally invited the United Nations to launch an investigation on “thematic human rights issues” in the US.

The invitation was extended a little over a year after the lightning-rod death of George Floyd, a black man killed when white Minneapolis police officer Derek Chauvin — since fired and convicted of murder — knelt on his neck during an arrest.

In a global report issued last month sparked by Floyd’s death, UN human rights chief Michelle Bachelet called on nations to “start dismantling racism.”

And earlier this month, Bachelet said that nations should “fully fund … a wide range of reparations measures” to make amends for slavery, discrimination and colonial rule.

The invitation also comes less than a year after the US endured a lashing on its civil rights record before the UN — getting scolded by the likes of China, Russia, Saudi Arabia and North Korea.

COMMENT:  I'd love to know whose idea it was to invite a corrupt, international farce like the United Nations to investigate us.  I have no doubt that it was the Obama crowd.  I also have no doubt that they will be supported by a good chunk of the woke press. 

I doubt if the result of these "investigations" will advance the life of one black child.  Of course, that's not the objective.  The objective is to degrade the United States and force us to start "reparations," otherwise known as buying votes.
